The Hip Kitty

The Hip Kitty

Last weekend grammy1 and I took our friend S to dinner at The Hip Kitty. The Hip Kitty is one of several new businesses housed in what used be a packing house for the citrus groves located east of LA. When my husband and I moved here in the mid 70's there were a few groves left, but the real estate became too valuable for farming. Now it's all housing. Anyhow this old building was beautifully recycled into a home for an art museum, restaurants, and a variety of small shops.

The Hip Kitty is a fondue restaurant. Your waitress sets you up at your table with the ingredients you choose. You can dip meat and shell fish. We chose to do vegetables and bread. We finished with chocolate fondue for dessert. For our main course the waitress mixed the cheese, milk and spices, and set the little stove to the perfect temperature, warm enough for the fondue to stay melted but not burn your mouth.

Of course, The Hip Kitty would serve wine with an appropriate label.

We arrived at 6:00 p.m., so we would have a chance to eat and talk, but at 6:30p.m. the music began. Every night The Hip Kitty has a jazz band play. Different bands on different nights.

And who do you imagine owns this 70's style night spot? Why, it's Audrey Hepburn!!
