Bird Walk

Previous Entry Share Next Entry
At the Rancho Santa Ana first Sunday of the month bird walk we saw CALIFORNIA QUAIL, RED TAIL HAWK, COOPER'S HAWK, RED SHOULDERED HAWK, CALIFORNIA TOWHEE, SPOTTED TOWHEE, NORTHERN FLICKER, ROBIN, OAK TITMOUSE, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, WESTERN SCRUB JAY NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, CALIFORNIA THRASHER, PHAINOPEPLA, WHITE CROWN SPARROW, BLACK PHOEBE, MOURNING DOVE, HOUSE FINCH, BEWICK'S WREN, CEDAR WAXWING, and BARN OWL.  It was cold and looked as though it would rain. At first we didn't see much, but it turned out to be a good walk.

This Cooper's Hawk is from another time taken in my front yard.
  • This is a lovely picture. I never realized how exquisite they are up close.
    • They really are beautiful. This was just a bird passing through and dining in my tree. About 18 or 20 years ago for two summers we had Cooper's Hawks nest and raise their young in our yard. We took hundreds and hundreds of pictures. They were wonderful to watch and we watched them every day until the last one flew off.
